Home

We all know the saying "it isn't the house that makes a home, it's who's inside."

Yes. True. But. Let's take a moment to express gratitude for the items and spaces that do bring us joy.

I feel that this saying can have the effect of minimizing the uniqueness of each individual's home, and what we love about it. Your bedroom for example. Do you love it? Does it represent comfort, warmth and does it make you excited to start your day?

A room filled with intentionally chosen art, and photos on the wall of kids, partners, even a quote that inspires you every time you stumble upon it, is a room worth celebrating. What a unique way to express gratitude for the safety of a home.

Some people just have a special gift of being able to craft a space that is filled with an amalgamation of  both new and used items that can provide a sense of calm and gratitude each time you walk into the room.

What a gift.

It is a firm belief of mine that every one can help the world grow and heal with their God given skills. Julie and Julie (hi ladies!) completely transformed my mom's room this week, and I have already lost count how many times I have heard from my mom "I love my room. I love my room. It is so beautiful" through a large and contagious smile.

So much of our attitude is dependent on our environment and who we are surrounded by. The nature of cancer treatment does not often allow one to easily change their environment (my mom often says she feels like it's "ground hogs day").

Fortunately, my mom (and our family) were able to celebrate her thoughtful friends who utilized their gifts and transformed her space meant for rest, and recovery from "eh it's fine" into a space that is "holy wow. I love it in here."

This week, I challenge you to pick one space that makes you happy; sit, stand or do yoga in there, leave your phone elsewhere, and really soak it in. As fall is upon us; the clouds continue to roll in, and the sound of the rain hitting the roof can be heard over the Seahawks game, I would love to know where do you feel most at home?
