Session 2 & Furry Family Members

How do dogs know? How do they know we aren't feeling our best; and are in need of their seemingly endless amount of energy & love?

I'm sure those answers are available on the internet, but quite frankly the answer as to "how" doesn't matter.

Huckleberry knew exactly what was necessary as soon as she entered the warm atmosphere of her Grammy's house. She smelt every nook and cranny, got her zoomies out in the back yard and curled up on the new fancy recliner with my mama who was still resting from her first round of Chemo.

Isn't marvelous how we don't have to explain to our kitties and little pups what is wrong? There is no need to give them the whole story or answer any questions. They are so deeply in tune with our emotional state.

"Come here Huggie, sit with Grammy" stated my mom as she looked at the little doodle, ears pointed strait up, and her head tilting side to side, as her little brain tries to understand what is being asked of her.

We all follow Huckleberry's lead, cuddle up on the couch, and love on one another without limitations. My Goggie is deep in another world, eyes glued to the pages on the paper, and her mind full of fictional characters. Poppie is completing a puzzle one piece at a time, with patience and consistency, "tap tap" we hear as he admires being one piece closer to completion.

I look over to my left and admire my mom. Look to my right and see my Goggie, whose love is palpable, and finally, I glance behind me to admire my Poppie's focus.

Huckleberry cuddled up with her favorite person, the Mariners on in the background, and my mom's intentionality in replying to all who are continuing to reach out.

I take a moment to relish just sitting next to each other, no words needed, just each other's presence.

"How are you feeling?" I ask with a hint of worry.

"Fine. I just have some bone pain" she replies and we turn back to the Mariners who are tied with the Angels (don't worry they won!)

As of this afternoon, she has completed her second session of Chemo. Today we are one step closer to killing every cancerous cell in her body. Today we celebrate the oncology nurses, modern medicine, and the sweet kitty cat who sits on her lap providing comfort and unconditional love while her body begins to recover from today's treatment.

Cheers to the calm, mundane, and unique love of Bozey and Huckie.
